This Weeks Match Report

22 Jul 2014 by Bob Browne

Not a good day for the Scorpions last weekend after our trip to Belmont to take on Lakes United, with the Scorpions only coming away with a win in the Under 23s which keeps them entrenched in the top half of the competition. Unfortunately the Under 18s, Reserve Grade and First Grade all suffered losses which could be costly at the end of the season in the push for semi final places.
With everything to play for last weekend the First Grade put in a poor performance in a game that was riddled by mistakes from both sides, Lakes took advantage of the Scorpions errors whereas the Scorpions did not. After leading 18-10 at halftime the Scorpions failed to control the ball in the second half allowing Lakes back in the game and taking the points 30-20. This was a most disappointing performance and result considering a win for the Scorpions would have had the Scorpions only one win from top spot with a game in hand.
The loss to Reserve Grade has also put pressure on the squad to make the semi finals and defend their title. Again it was poor handling and mistakes that cost the Scorpions the win and making the games against Central this weekend at Peacock Field Toronto especially important before the replay of the washout games against Cessnock the following week.
The good thing about rugby league though is that there is always next week and it is hoped that all players take stock and come out against the vastly improving Central and play to their abilities and if they do then they can come away with then much needed 2 points.
